Hours: Approximately 15-20 hours/week (Summer)

- Hold a cumulative GPA of at least 2.70 and in good academic standing
- Experience serving in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) student organizations or other leadership positions and working with AAPI students
- Experience in educational, cultural, and identity based event planning
- Experience with student organizing and activity planning
- Passionate about empowering future generations of AAPI students
- Understanding of marketing, online content, social media, and outreach efforts geared toward students
About the Job
The Asian Pacific American Resource Center (APARC) is committed to supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students thrive at the University of Minnesota. The position will have a vital role in working with APARC staff to develop, implement, and coordinate the New AAPI Student Welcome sessions and AAPI First-Year Retreat. The New AAPI Student Welcome sessions and AAPI First-Year Retreat serve to support first-year AAPI students with transitioning to college through community building activities and introduction to AAPI identity development. The goal of the programs are to welcome students to the U, connect students to the AAPI community on campus, and affirm the identities and experiences of AAPI students.
The position will be responsible for organizing and leading 4-5 online student sessions and 1 in-person retreat to engage students with social engagements, discussions, presentations, and/or workshops that are related to first-year student experiences, specific to the AAPI student population. The position will work closely with APARC staff to plan activities, facilitate programming, and continuously develop the program to support AAPI students. In addition, the position is responsible for supporting the resource center as noted in the position duties and responsibilities.
The position will be working remotely from June-September. The position will transition to in-person work in September. During remote work, candidates must be available to attend a weekly team meeting during regular hours of operations: Mon-Fri; 9am-5pm and initial team training during the first week of hire. Team meetings and training will be scheduled after hiring. Open to coordinating staffing schedules to meet specific needs and accommodations. Ability to maintain an assigned staffing schedule is essential. The position will require some evening hours and one working Saturday pending scheduling of program activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement New AAPI Student Welcome and AAPI First-Year Retreat activities to support AAPI students with college transition
- Develop and implement online and social media outreach efforts to connect with first-year AAPI students for program participation
- Research and gather information to develop student engagement programming and activities for students
- Meet with APARC staff for support with program planning, implementation, and communication to students for program participation
- Lead and facilitate program activities
- Model positive and inclusive behavior, and support students in the program with informal mentorship and resources
- Maintain program feedback and student evaluations with program participation
- Attend campus and community sponsored programs, events, and activities related to first-year student college transition
- Answer questions and direct campus resources for students
- Assist with other campus and community activities as needed
- Assist with other APARC events and activities that may occur during position timeline
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Starting pay is $14/hr with opportunities to increase pay based on experiences and skills related to the position. Application deadline is May 8th.
