Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a full time undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.70 and in good academic standing
  • Strong graphic design skills and ability to work across different media
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Committed to semester or long-term employment for the position (position has potential employment options beyond a single semester)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to create engaging marketing materials, content, and design using a variety of media, designs, and artistic creativity
  • Experience with photography and/or videography
  • Strong website and social media management skills
  • Able to take initiative and work independently
  • Possess an understanding of issues regarding social justice, intersectionality, oppression, and inequity
  • Possess an understanding of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students experiences and willingness to engage students about AAPI identity, culture, and history
  • Passionate about empowering future generations of AAPI students
  • Experience working with AAPI students and/or communities

About the Job

The Asian Pacific American Resource Center (APARC) is committed to supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students thrive at the University of Minnesota.  Student Ambassadors will work to support the initiatives of the center and carry out the mission of APARC.  Student Ambassadors will play a vital role at APARC to cultivate a supportive community for AAPI students, affirm AAPI student identities, and connect students to resources.  The ideal candidate for this position should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of AAPI student perspectives and experiences in their role responsibilities, projects, and engagements with students.

The position is responsible for developing creative and engaging designs, contents, and campaigns to promote the mission and work of APARC.  In addition, the position is responsible for supporting the resource center as noted in the position duties and responsibilities.  Knowledge and creativity to effectively reach and connect with diverse student audiences is highly desired.

To support CODVID-19 safety measures, the position will be a hybrid position. Candidates must be available in-person to staff the front desk during APARC hours of operations - which will be a shared schedule with APARC staff and other student workers.  Open to coordinating staffing schedules to fit class schedules. Other APARC responsibilities that do not require in-person support can be completed remotely with supervisor guidance. The position may also require some in-person evening and weekend hours depending on student programming and event scheduling, which will be discussed in advance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop creative marketing campaigns and content to reach a diverse student audience including use of videos, photography, social media, and other multimedia platforms
  • Design flyers, brochures, postcards, and other marketing materials for program events and activities
  • Update and maintain APARC and other program initiative branding
  • Work in partnership with other Student Ambassadors on projects and campaigns
  • Staff front desk, welcome, and ensure proper sign-in of students and visitors to the center
  • Answer questions and direct resources for students and visitors
  • Monitor activities and ensure safe space of the center
  • Manage conference room schedule
  • Assist with checking in and out materials for patrons of the APARC Resource Library 
  • Assist with coordinating and planning student programs
  • Assist with student recruitment, marketing, and presentations of events and activities
  • Assist with events and activities setup and clean up
  • Assist, facilitate, and/or engage with students during APARC in-person or virtual activities
  • Represent APARC at university events and activities
  • Other duties and assistances as assigned

The position will pay $15/hour for approximately 10-12 hours/week. Anticipated start date is Oct. 4th or after. Anticipated end date is the last day of spring semester with potential option of continued employment through summer and next academic year.
